Wessex Resins & Adhesives Limited was formed after a management buy-out of the marine division of Borden Chemical Company Limited of Southampton and commenced trading on 1st January 1981. Taking over the small site previously occupied by Borden Marine, Wessex Resins and Adhesives initially distributed a range of products specific to the marine industry, including a large number of epoxy compositions supplied to the Royal Navy under long term contracts with the Ministry of Defence and, of course, WEST SYSTEM Brand Products. Rapid distribution of these materials coupled with good technical after sales service quickly established Wessex Resins in the marine field and within four years it was necessary to move to larger premises to accommodate the growth which had been achieved. With the additional space available, the company moved into the manufacture of epoxide resins and hardeners and proceeded to extend distribution channels throughout Europe.
During the 1980’s Gougeon Brothers moved into the composite industry with the introduction of the PRO-SET epoxy systems and, in 1990, Wessex Resins entered this market, manufacturing the new product range under a similar license agreement to that which has operated so successfully with the manufacture of the WEST SYSTEM Brand materials.
Wider distribution, greater demand for proven products and higher volume sales determined that greater factory space was required and, in 1995, it was necessary for the company to re-locate again – to a 1.9 acre site in Romsey, Hampshire. With new premises, new plant and equipment and much improved laboratory facilities, Wessex Resins was able to continue the expansion of the business without sacrificing customer and technical support.
All the products manufactured are quality approved to BS EN ISO 9001:2008 and both WEST SYSTEM and PRO-SET epoxies have been approved by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping following an extensive test programme. With these proven epoxy compositions the company provides excellent technical support which is widely recognised by both amateurs and professionals as a service which is second to none!
